The on the ground support for Bernie Sanders is a real thing. I just went to the opening of a field office in Las Vegas. It was a noisy and impressive crowd of mostly young educated folk. The office Itself is literally across the street from UNLV and therefore perfectly situated to constantly remind the young people who is proposing to make public universities tuition free.
Beyond that, within the week, Sanders will have 5 offices open in Las Vegas; all of them are situated to take advantage of/ appeal to the important demographic groups that Bernie is targeting.
Conversely, the DNC has an office in an industrial park next to the highway, with no signage visible to passing traffic. Hillary’s one office is in a strip mall that gets plenty of traffic at lunchtime during the week.
It seems that the strategic thinking is happening in only one camp. Nevada is a notoriously independent-minded state and even having major union endorsements guarantee nothing here. The state is up for grabs and Bernie’s volunteers are motivated to make things happen. We have gotten no indication that any of the usual media sources are looking at the situation on the ground with candor. Anyone?
